NFL Draft makes one thing obvious.

That everyone fails to realize one thing. One very, very, important thing.

Teams don’t take the best player available. And if they are, they’re idiots. Most teams take the best player ON THEIR BOARD.

Does anyone understand this? There is no way to grade the dratfts of the teams unless you know all of their systems. If you know how the team does things and what they’re looking for and who’s going to fit their system and who isn’t, then please grade away.

Otherwise, shut up.

I’m tired of people complaining that their ‘team’ has made a bad pick when they have no clue what they’re talking about.

Let’s look at the Colts, probably the team that drafts the best in the NFL. Year in and year out they rely on their draft picks to make their team. They don’t sign big free agents. Okay, maybe Vinatieri but he’s the sole one.

This year the Colts selected a center with their first pick. Oh no they have all-pro Jeff Saturday! What are they doing!? Well, they’re creating depth and are prepared if Saturday retires or his play declines.

Oh no, the Patriots wasted a third on a QB!? They have Brady! They need offensive line! Look, with the pass rush the Giants brought in the Super Bowl, no one was going to block that. They have Brady, and Brady is 30. Cassell is a free agent and the end of the year and is not a good backup (remember when he almost blew that game againt Miami and Brady had to come back in?), and who knows, maybe O’Connell will take over for Brady in five years.

Please, just stop talking. There’s a reason your team passed on that player you wanted. They were concerned! Either they didn’t think he fit the system, he wouldn’t be able to grasp the system, he has bad character, he’s not intelligent, or they just like the other guy better. Teams aren’t missing picks on purpose. They spend months doing this. They work their assess off.

The bigges reason a bust turns out bad is because either they weren’t able to develop him into an NFL player, the player just couldn’t do it, the surrounding teammates couldn’t help him out, or the player just messed up so much the team gave up on him.

So please, during the 2009 draft. Wait, be patient, and try to understand why you picked your players. After they play, after they make the team, then talk about whether they were a good pick or not.

Human Rights Alert: Violation in Zimbabwe

Robert Mugabe, the guy who lost Zimbabwe’s recent Presidential election, appears ready to use violence, chaos, and probably a dash of genocide to take back Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe should be on the forefront of the mind of anyone who cares anything for human rights. Yes, Tibet is bad too, but this should have some consideration.

Luckily, there have been some arms embargoes on any firearms making their way into the country. In fact, a recent shipment of weapons have been sent back to China.

Draws make Champions League even more interesting.

This past week the final four in the Champions League squared off in the first leg of their respective semi final matches.

Both games drew with Liverpool and Chelsea at 1 – 1 and Man U and Barca nil – nil.

And I don’t think it’ll end up being an all England final.

Call it a feeling, but I believe Chelsea will pull out the victory against ‘Pool while Barca will stun Man U in Old Trafford.

I really don’t think much analyses in needed. I just believe Chelsea will grind out Liverpool in a goalless match while Barca will put all they have into the Champions League as they have nothing else to play for, while Manchester United will have their hands full with Chelsea this Saturday.

You could also say Chelsea could lose cause of that match with Manchester United. Either way, I believe that match will take a lot out of both teams and hurt both teams’ chances of doing well in the Champions League.

All of it comes down to one simple theory for Chelsea and Manchester United: it’s very difficult to win both the Champions League and their respective national league.

Best Week in Sports

Yeah, I’d argue this is the best week in sports, and not just American sports. World sports.

Firstly, we have the Indian Premier League heating up and exciting cricket fans.

Champions League football and a heated up title race between Chelsea FC and Manchester United.

NBA playoffs.

NHL playoffs.

The young MLB season

NFL Draft.

St-Pierre beat Matt Serra in UFC 83 to win the Welterweight title.

Exciting times, and if you’re a sports fan you’re watching almost all of it. Only thing that’s missing is college sports. March Madness just ended and college football hasn’t quite geared up yet unless you count the incoming rookies.

Don’t bother me, I’m enjoying athletic competition.

Chad Johnson wants out.

Cincinnati Bengals star wide out Chad Johnson wants out of Cincy.

Today he said that he wanted to be dealt out of Cincy by the draft or as soon as possible.

Ok, well, let’s say the Bengals do get rid of him… despite Coach Marvin Lewis’ claims that they will never, who will take good ol’ Ocho Cinco?

I have three possible destinations that pop out and stare me in the face right away.

Philadelphia: Remember McNabb – TO? Yeah, this could be like that again. It would be very entertaining to watch and almost guarantee the Iggles the NFC East crown. Only thing is I don’t know if they have the cap room for Ocho Cinco and Asante Samuel… though… this does make sense since Philly could package Lito Sheppard with a draft pick for No. 85.

Tennessee: The Titans have had horrible luck acquiring receivers recently, and I’m pretty sure they still want a threat for Vince Young. Well, here’s there threat. I’m sure they have the cap room for it too. Buuut… we’ll see how they adapt to CJ’s antics.

Atlanta: What a way to excite a fanbase! No more Mike Vick… no more entertainment or jerseys selling like crazy… until Ocho Cinco dawns the red and black! If they believe in DJ Shockley and pass on Matt Ryan in favor of Glenn Dorsey, or if they pick up Matt Ryan, either way it’s perfect! A great pass catcher for a young QB.

Speaking of athletes, I do not understand why people want the torchbearers not to run. It’s an opportunity that doesn’t come along very often. Let them run. Let them have their experience and represent their country in the world’s games. The olympics are special to the world.

If you really want to hurt China, protest Chinese products. That’ll hurt them, they can always find new torchbearers, but they can’t replace the money you don’t spend on their products.

Simpler is better. Fast and Furious it is.

That new Fast and the Furious movie seems to be going with the ’simpler is better’ idea with the new title for the movie.

Fast and Furious. FAF. Three words.

It sounds a bit odd coming off the tongue, especially since most have known it as the ‘Fast and THE Furious’ franchise.

Anyway, IGN Movies reports that it’s all about Diesel and Walker’s characters not liking each other and united against a common enemy! WOAH! How innovative!

What a stretch of the imagination there, huh!? Well, let’s hope there’s a bit more depth to the plot.

Okay, okay, I know the, uhh… FAF/FATF franchise is all about speed and cars, but please… I’d like a bit of a plot this time. The first one is a classic, it started this thing off and launched tuner culture into the mainstream. The second was okay, highlight was Eva Mendes personally, but that Eclipse Spyder was as sexy as her. Almost.

Third… well… I don’t know how you get a muscle car to drift. Let’s just leave it at that.

They’re looking to rake it in with the cast of the first movie though, so let’s see if Fast and Furious can live up to the original.

Forget ‘Bitter.’

I decided to skip watching that little debate between Clinton and Obama today, okay so maybe I just wanted to watch my San Jose Sharks in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but really… I’m getting tired of all the talk about Obama being and elitist and calling people bitter.

I just don’t understand how it makes him bitter. I really don’t.

Maybe I’m wrong, so maybe someone could tell me… but I don’t get it.

I’ll relate it to this: I’d call Red Sox fans bitter… or okay, they were bitter before they won these two World Series recently. They’d always mess up somehow against the Yankees and watch the Yankees pull it off, at least most of the time.

Red Sox fans were bitter, it was one of the reason they hated the Yankees.

Actually, it’s more like common sense. People get bitter when they’re struggling. It happens, nothing to be ashamed of. I don’t understand how that made Obama elitist.

Me thinks Clinton is getting a bit on the desperate side.

And maybe I’m not a politico… but I’m just getting tired of this getting dragged on, and on, and on. I just want Obama to wrap this up so I can concentrate on this national election.

Sure, I’ll fire up Google News and read about the latest happenings, but I’m not going to follow every detail like I did around Super Tuesday.

Oh, and Go Sharks. If you don’t like hockey you should really watch just one playoff game. They really are something special.

Everyone’s Hungry

Today I saw the news about the riots in Egypt and elsewhere in the world about the rising cost of food, and it got me thinking.

I know they’re hungry and they want food at affordable prices. I’d like to think it’s a human right, an unalienable right, to have food available readily at easy to afford prices.

But it got me thinking about something else.

We’re all hungry.

We’re hungry for different reasons, but every human is hungry. This unavoidable, ever-lasting hunger we have is the hunger for power, the hunger for sex, the hunger for money, the hunger for food, the hunger to make ourselves better.

This hunger will never leave us, as it’s the consequence for a capitalistic society. We will always look out for numero uno and always be hungry.

Some may be hungry for food, and some may be hungry for power, but we’ll all always be hungry.

Prom Night? Really?

So, the super teen horror movie Prom Night made 22.7 million this box office… and I’m both not surprised and utterly disappointed.

Disappointed because I’d think we’d eventually get tired of these movies… and not surprised because… well, we didn’t get tired of these kinds of movies.

I mean come on… how many times does a killer have to escape a prison!? Okay, to be fair I haven’t seen the film yet, but it looks bad… and it sounds bad… and… well… I suppose if you need an hour and a half of entertainment it’s perfectly fine.

Okay, on Rottentomatoes.com users rated the movie at 50% while critics gave it 13%

That would make it at least average… if not that then very, very bad. I just don’t think we should reward film makers with an opening weekend gross of 22.7 million if it gets that kind of score… isn’t that fair?

Although who knows, maybe I’m wrong. Maybe there is no way to prevent it. Maybe marketing creates too much hype for movies. Maybe thousands or millions of guys wanted to see Britney Snow run around and scream in a prom dress (perhaps enacting a fantasy they’ve had?).

Whatever.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall comes out next week and it looks like fans of Knocked Up, Super Bad, and 40 Year Old Virgin will enjoy it.

Yahoo! concentrates on Yahoo!

Amazing.

Despite the many buyout offers from Microsoft Yahoo! just keeps on chugging. They’re focused and down to business. Today they announced that they’re improving their mobile phone software with oneSearch 2.0 and a new version of their Go client.

Amazing.

It doesn’t seem like this is a company that might be bought out and merged into another one. Absorbed into Microsoft and creating an online power that could rival Google.

It just doesn’t seem like that at all.

Maybe it’s possible that cooler heads prevail? Yahoo! focuses on Yahoo! enough and they increase their worth. Increase it enough and maybe Microsoft backs down… maybe. It sounds a bit farfetched, but so does Yahoo! concentrating Yahoo! when Microsoft is trying to buy them out.

How would you run a company that is possibly going to be bought out by the largest software company in the world?

All that comes to mind is one word.

Amazing.
